Curious?

I’m walking through the bookstore when I see a bold yellow book, challenging me to answer a provocative question…Curious? My ego wanted to say no, but, and I am so happy about this, I resisted the urge to play it safe, and I said to myself…YES! I *am* curious about this book that says only “Curious?” on the front, and I picked it up and opened it!

Curious?, by Todd Kashdan, Ph.D., presents research from positive psychology, describes a way of being that is transformational, and warms a coach’s heart.

As you might guess, the book suggests an attitude of mindful, open curiosity towards life to experience fulfillment.

One thing of the many I love about this concept is that curiosity takes the attitude of saying “yes” to life a bit further. (Backing up a minute, most people say “no” to events in life, especially ones judged to be “negative”, by resistance, denial, mental suffering, etc. Saying “yes” to whatever is in your experience gets us to where we need to go faster and in a more enjoyable fashion.) Being curious, you are actively engaged and interested in everything. Sounds a bit like being ALIVE doesn’t it?

Here’s a quote from the book that is *so* up my alley:

“The greatest advantage of curiosity is that by spending time and energy with the new, increased neurological connections are made possible. Facts and experiences are synthesized into a web, paving the way for greater intelligence and wisdom. We become more efficient when making future decisions. We become better at visualizing the relativity of seemingly disparate ideas, paving the way for great creativity. It is the neurological equivalent of personal growth. New pathways in the brain are inevitable when you seek out new information and experiences and integrate them into the previously unknown.” (Emphasis mine.)

This book presents research, anecdotes and practical exercises to help you enjoy your life…And also let’s you know all the benefits that come with that!
