I didn’t catch what song it was, and the set list isn’t out yet, but I believe it was the penultimate song of the Tedeschi Trucks Band concert last night.
Part of an oh-so-appreciated series after a year of pandemic living, the Fireside Sessions, streaming from their home in Florida, Georgia for 6 consecutive Thursday nights, available on Nugs.net.
It was time for the guitar solo and Derek set down his guitar and started to walk away, Susan looked over at him as if to say, ok, you are leaving me here?
Derek *very* slowly sauntered around the back of the drums and started casually putting logs on the fire while Susan launched into a gorgeous guitar solo.
I often think that Susan “sings” with her guitar as a perfect compliment to Derek’s…well…Derek is just Derek of course.
Tonight, Susan took it to a whole other level and she channeled something special. By the time she was really into it, Derek was back from the fire, grinning from ear to ear, and was enjoying it just as much as the rest of us if not more.
I have to say, I’m pretty impressed with Susan. Beautiful singing, beautiful presence, huge range of authentic emotional expression, putting an incredible band together, has an incredible artistic man as a lover and husband.
And yes, she can pull off a damn sweet guitar solo.
